Professional Biography:  Chef Suzanne C. McGarry

Writing was a first love at the age of eight, journaling about a character named Hotdog who sailed the seven seas in search of adventure and battling the 'baddies' (as my nephews call them); and when it was time to pick a major at Rutger's University, I was torn between pursuing journalism or biology, due to a strong interest in science and an absolute fascination and fear for sharks! (I drove my family crazy on holiday vacations to the shore)  Ultimately, I chose journalism since I could NEVER imagine myself being lowered into the sea in a shark cage, and my first professional job was with Paramount Communications.  But a chance meeting and subsequent friendship with my cousin, John Shea, who accepted a position as General Manager for Windows-on-the-World Restaurant Group, introduced me to the exciting world of chefs, food and cooking and I was hooked!   I started with corporate hospitality management, working for a number of top restaurateurs and exciting venues (Rockefeller Center and Grand Central Station were both mad busy and fun!)

Eventually, my adventurous  side turned to a 'cool geek' interest in the science and political advocacy of the growing Food Revolution highlighting local, organic and sustainable ingredients and traditional cooking  techniques, and I headed back to school to study culinary arts at The French Culinary Institute in NYC.  And since I had been mentored early in my restaurant management career to pursue training and development, teaching culinary and management classes has been a natural progression of my interest and career.

Living in Colorado has been another leap forward in my career, learning the agricultural and manufacturing links in the food continuum.  It had been here that I have learned the importance of protecting our food and water ways to ensure clean, nourishing food and beverage for now and our future generations.

My career in hospitality has been an adventure to say the least.  From managing the Lion King movie premiere at Rockefeller Center, to coordinating and managing the James Beard Awards Dinner (and escorting Julia Child around the kitchen area- what a thrill! to managing the televised opening of Morimoto Restaurant on the Food Network to cooking at several fine-dining establishments including Judson Grill in NYC and special events at the Broadmoor- it's been a career filled with the pleasure of meeting and working with amazing people from all walks of life, in some of the most beautiful spaces and with foods and cooking techniques that continue to expand my world and connect me with family, friends, wonderful guests and co-workers and with a sense of stewardship for the earth and knowledge that food and beverage is universal, and to be shared with all.

Wedding Advice from Eastholme Wedding Planner - Selecting a Venue

Selecting the perfect setting for your wedding, elopement and reception is essential to ensure these joyous events will live forever as fond memories for you and your guests.  Different types of events require different needs.  A wedding venue reflects the wedding couple's personality and style.

If you are planning an intimate gathering with a small number of guests you might consider a bed and breakfast inn that specializes in weddings and events.  Bed and Breakfast Inns are becoming more popular for wedding couples seeking a unique and historic venue.

If you're planning a destination wedding, keep in mind that your choice of venue may limit which of your guests can attend.  Be sure that the location can be easily reached by car or plane and cost effective for family and friends that might attend.

A few things to consider when selecting a venue.........
1.  Total number of guests they can accommodate?
2.  Is our date available?
3.  How many events will be held on the day of my wedding?
4.  Do they offer catering services?
5.  What is the cost for the event, are there any hidden costs?
6.  Are there limitations of what type of decor can be used?
7.  What is their payment schedule?
8.  What is their wedding schedule or timeline for events?
9.  Is there a set up, tear down or clean fee?
10.  Is there bathroom facilities for guests?
11.  Do they have a wedding planner or coordinator on site?

For a unique and elegant venue consider Eastholme in the Rockies Bed and Breakfast Inn is an 1885 Victorian Inn located just minutes from downtown Colorado Springs, Manitou Springs and Pikes Peak Mountain of Colorado.  Located at the foot of Pikes Peak, you'll enjoy the beautiful mountain views and the natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains for the ideal backdrop for the perfect outdoor mountain wedding.

The Inn can accommodate events of up to 50 people outdoors in our beautiful wedding gazebo and receptions on the patio or indoors in the formal dining room.  Our All Inclusive Wedding Packages are designed for an intimate and elegant wedding including the venue, ceremony, reception, officiant, photography, flowers, cake and guest accommodations in our bed and breakfast inn.

There are many things to consider in selecting the perfect wedding venue.  This is only a sampling of ideas that you should keep in mind.  Call the wedding planner at Eastholme in the Rockies for more advice and how we can make your wedding day dreams come true.

Wedding Advice from Eastholme Wedding Planner - Photography Before the Ceremony

Wedding Advice from Eastholme in the Rockies Wedding Planner

Photography Before The Ceremony

There are many advantages of taking your photography before the actual wedding ceremony.  Many couples are choosing to do things this way for many reasons and it's practical.

Your first look photos where the bride and groom see each other prior to the ceremony is a romantic way to start your day.  You'll see each other for the first time in a romantic private setting, not shared by others watching.  It also can help get rid of some of your preceremony nerves. You'll remember that first look forever!

The bride's hair and makeup will be perfectly fresh for those private and romantic photos of just the two of you.

Your guests are not kept waiting after the ceremony for hours before the reception or cocktail hour begins.

The myth of you can't see each other until the walk down the aisle is just that a myth.  The moment you walk down the aisle will still be magical no matter how many times you see each other beforehand.

Eastholme in the Rockies Bed and Breakfast is a full service wedding venue including guest accommodations.  Check out our "All Inclusive Wedding Packages".  To learn more about real weddings held at Eastholme visit our Featured Wedding Couples and hear their wedding day story.
