USA Pro Cycling Challenge 2012 - Colorado Springs - Lodging Special at Eastholme

Well it's official......Twelve Colorado cities will host next year's 2012 USA Pro Cycling Challenge.

Next year's race, scheduled for Aug. 20, 2012 through Aug. 26, 2012 will begin in Durango and end in Denver after some 520 miles of racing that include five ascents of passes over 10,000 feet.

The official route has been released and we are excited that Colorado Springs, Colorado is in Stage 5 of the race. The race will come through Woodland Park and Cascade on August 24, 2012.

The first stage of the 2012 race will wind 111 miles from Durango over 10,222-foot Lizard Head Pass and down into Telluride.

The second stage will begin in Montrose and end in Mt. Crested Butte, a host city from this year's race. At least six of this year's host cities will again host stages in 2012.

Stage three will start in Gunnison and race over 12,126-foot Cottonwood Pass and 12,095-foot Independence Pass into Aspen, the same 131-mile route as this year's second stage and the highlight of the inaugural race.

The next day the racers will pedal 102 miles back up Independence Pass, down into Leadville and through Minturn, climbing to a finish at Beaver Creek/Vail Valley.

Stage five will begin in Breckenridge and race over 11,532-foot Hoosier Pass for 106 miles, ending in Colorado Springs.

Stage six will begin in Golden and run up Coal Creek Canyon to the Peak to Peak Highway. Traversing the heavily cycled Peak to Peak through Nederland and Ward, the route then descends Left Hand Canyon into Boulder in a 61-mile or 73-mile route.

A final stage will be held in Denver, with organizers planning a time trial along city streets.

Professional Biography: Chef Suzanne C. McGarry

Writing was a first love at the age of eight, journaling about a character named Hotdog who sailed the seven seas in search of adventure and battling the 'baddies' (as my nephews call them); and when it was time to pick a major at Rutger's University, I was torn between pursuing journalism or biology, due to a strong interest in science and an absolute fascination and fear for sharks! (I drove my family crazy on holiday vacations to the shore) Ultimately, I chose journalism since I could NEVER imagine myself being lowered into the sea in a shark cage, and my first professional job was with Paramount Communications. But a chance meeting and subsequent friendship with my cousin, John Shea, who accepted a position as General Manager for Windows-on-the-World Restaurant Group, introduced me to the exciting world of chefs, food and cooking and I was hooked! I started with corporate hospitality management, working for a number of top restaurateurs and exciting venues (Rockefeller Center and Grand Central Station were both mad busy and fun!)

Eventually, my adventurous side turned to a 'cool geek' interest in the science and political advocacy of the growing Food Revolution highlighting local, organic and sustainable ingredients and traditional cooking techniques, and I headed back to school to study culinary arts at The French Culinary Institute in NYC. And since I had been mentored early in my restaurant management career to pursue training and development, teaching culinary and management classes has been a natural progression of my interest and career.

Living in Colorado has been another leap forward in my career, learning the agricultural and manufacturing links in the food continuum. It had been here that I have learned the importance of protecting our food and water ways to ensure clean, nourishing food and beverage for now and our future generations.

My career in hospitality has been an adventure to say the least. From managing the Lion King movie premiere at Rockefeller Center, to coordinating and managing the James Beard Awards Dinner (and escorting Julia Child around the kitchen area- what a thrill! to managing the televised opening of Morimoto Restaurant on the Food Network to cooking at several fine-dining establishments including Judson Grill in NYC and special events at the Broadmoor- it's been a career filled with the pleasure of meeting and working with amazing people from all walks of life, in some of the most beautiful spaces and with foods and cooking techniques that continue to expand my world and connect me with family, friends, wonderful guests and co-workers and with a sense of stewardship for the earth and knowledge that food and beverage is universal, and to be shared with all.

Santa's Workshop, North Pole October Military Appreciation - Lodging Special at Eastholme B&B

October is Military Appreciation month at Santa's Workshop, North Pole, CO. They are showing their thanks to our Military by offering free admission to the active duty military member and/or their spouse with a valid active military ID.

Starting on October 1st and running until October 31st, when military personnel and/or their spouse come to the park and show their active duty ID they will get free admission. Any dependant children will be admitted at the military rate of $12.95. Children 2-9 years of age will be admitted under parents' ID. Children age 10 and above must show their dependant ID to get the discount. Admission includes unlimited rides, magic shows and visits with Santa.

Free admission does not apply to retired military and their spouses, but they are still eligible for the $12.95 rate.

2011 USA Pro Cycling Challenge - Colorado Springs - Lodging at Eastholme B&B

The USA Pro Cycling Challenge is expected to be the largest spectator event in Colorado history and one of the largest sporting events to ever take place in the United States. For seven consecutive days, 128 of the world’s top athletes will race across 518 miles through the majestic Rockies, reaching higher altitudes than they’ve ever had to endure, more than two miles in elevation. It’s the best of the best in professional cycling, competing on a challenging course through some of America’s most beautiful scenery, including cities such as Aspen, Vail, Breckenridge and Steamboat Springs.

Referred to as “America’s Race” the inaugural USA Pro Cycling Challenge will take place August 22-28, 2011. With more than one million spectators expected at the event, as well as national television exposure on NBC and VERSUS, the USA Pro Cycling Challenge will be one of the largest cycling events in United States history.

Spectators of this race will see Olympians, World Champions and Tour de France competitors. Fans worldwide will have access to the competition and riders like never before with the most advanced, interactive online, smartphone and broadcast television experience presented to date in professional cycling.
